The Age of Becoming: Diary of an Aspiring Faux Queen - Chapter 1. An Introduction

Hi there!

A year ago, I had my first taste of the Melbourne queer scene and my first taste of drag and it made me thirsty! You'd think that after a year of consistent exposure to the continuous array of rainbows and glitter, my taste would be somewhat satisfied, but it wasn't and I am finding myself absolutely PARCHED!

Unable to satisfy my thirst for the art of drag simply by observing it, I recently made a decision that has not only influenced my personal style, ability to express myself and my bank account, but may also have redirected my career path (one of the few things I've always considered to be concrete).

This is the decision I have made: I want to... no, I am GOING to become a faux queen.

Now that I've gotten that out of my hair, you may be asking yourself: what exactly is a faux queen?
I can't count on four hands how many times I have answered this question (most times have been in response to my mother), so what's one more time?

The term faux queen refers to a female drag performer acting as a female character, rather than a male one (that would make her a drag king). Although faux queen is the "technical" term for this, I also refer to faux queens as female drag queens or, simply, drag performers. An alternative definition provided by Urban Dictionary is "a genetically-challenged drag queen." (genetically-challenged!?)

So, I am an aspiring faux queen and independent filmmaker and I am on a mission to be FABULOUS!

I will be frequently blogging about my experiences with my transformation, makeup (I'm trying to teach myself so DON'T JUDGE ME), style, other drag performers and anything else that relates to feel free to follow me and my journey!

Thank you for reading!
